As Jim already knows, the frame he bought is the first 3Rensho I owned and later sold. He wanted some history on it, so here is what I know. I purchased from the original owner at the St Louis Bike swap for $500 complete with early C-Record on it. I saw the bike, looked it over and decided it was too big for me. He was taking offers. Ended up buying a Guerciotti panto chain ring from him. Came back later and asked how it was going. Said most of the offers were insulting. I offered the $500 and said he could not turn it down. His fiancee was pushing the sale, I think. PO indicated he raced the bike for at least two seasons. There was some road rash on the pedals and RD which supported that claim.
I took it home, removed all the parts save the headset and BB. Took the frame to A-1 in St Louis where they serviced both. Took a Dremel to the C-Record RD to fix the road rash, bought some new hood and replacement bars along with a NOS yellow Selle San Marco Regal. Photographed the frame and reassembled, rode it about 50 miles. It was wondrous. But I also knew it was too big and I had other fish to fry.
Put it up for sale on CR and it was purchased by Ken Denny for $1000. I actually got less cash and a whole bunch of Campy parts. I think I did alright. Some people claim Ken is difficult to deal with, but he was fine with me and answered a lot of questions for me concerning his bikes. About 10 months later, he emailed me, offering the bike back at the same price. Had it been 54cm, I would have done it. I saw the bike later on the bay with IIRC a $1500 BIN and it did not sell. Ken appeared to have had a touchup done and added the missing decals. Saw it once again on the bay and it sold for $2500. So I think Jim got a deal.
I am curious how the seller came to part it. That was probably one of the nicest bikes I have ever owned and with the near complete early C-Record, it was pretty rare.
