Ultimately, you have to have a superior genetic gift to be a top pro cyclist. However, I think it is possible through hard work (and some genetic predisposition) to be a domestic pro. However, I think setting goals that are too far away are mind boggling and depressing. At this point, I focus on small achievements (i.e., raising my FTP 20watts...etc.). Looking too far ahead could be counterproductive. Personally, I have no illusions about my abilities. I'll be perfectly content to make it to Cat 3 through hard work and commitment.
