As to the wife? Try a short little weekender to a Bed and Breakfast as a Credit Card tour! Going stones to the wall on a 720 mile unsupported tour for a first tour (My wife), and primitive camping ain't for everyone.....especially on the UP!
At least it's up on the Canadian Shield terrain wise, so by the time we hit the Porcupine Mts, she'll be a LOT stronger a rider!
