The traffic wasn't ever very bad besides the few miles we had to ride on I-84. I'm including a link to the general map... On the Oregon side of Bridge of Gods there is a nice path that parallels I-84 for a while, so you don't need to ride on it very long before you switch to the Columbia River Scenic Highway.
