howsteepisit, funny you should bring the topic up, cause I was thinking over the past few weeks that I might give up bike racing again, after reentry into only last year. I luv the racing, but don't like the hanging around waiting, nor the drive to and from. But for now I might just adandon crits (and I LUV crits) - since they are usually in 'industrial' or small downtown areas and not much on scenary - and focus on road races only.
But primarily I really like rolling out of the driveway
I like the familiar landscape of my area, which I get to see with a fresh eye; everytime I ride through.
And I like the freedom of not being owned by the infernal combustion machine.
I really like and enjoy the people I ride with, many of whom also ride from home.
I'll continue to become even pickier about when I might drive anywhere to ride.
