song

Good thread. My commute along a pretty busy lane in east Portland takes me through a heavily Hispanic neighborhood called Rockwood. Lots of thumping lowriders, so when I hear the heavy bass coming up behind me it's no big deal. A couple days ago I hear it and glance back and it's a guy on a three-wheel recumbent with the biggest freakin' boombox strapped to his bike. I just had to smile. Wish I had a picture.

Here's the BEST bike song ever, lyrics by Gram Parsons and Chris Hilman and done by the Flying Burrito Brothers. Originally written about motorcycles I think (or tour buses???) I give you

"Wheels"

We've all got wheels to take ourselves away
We've got telephones to say what we can't say
We've all got higher and higher every day
Come on wheels take this boy away
We're not afraid to ride
We're not afraid to die
So come on wheels take me home today
Come on wheels take this boy away
Now when I feel my time is almost up
and destiny is in my right hand
I'll turn to him who made my faith so strong
Come on wheels make this boy a man
We're not afraid to ride
We're not afraid to die
come on wheels take me home today
come on wheels take this boy away
come on wheels take this boy away
