Hit by car = DMVs mark against driving record

Had my first run in (literally) with a motor vehicle this week when an 18-wheeler pulled out in front of me and I plowed into the cab at about 20mph. The driver did not see me and was very apologetic thus no bad feelings toward him for causing the accident. I’m plenty sore after the collision but not seriously hurt. My bike is pretty trashed though – dented frame, scratched components, taco’ed wheel.

While the driver was nice enough after the accident I’m having a hard time getting a hold of him now to discuss compensation for my bike. So this morning I went down to the local Sheriffs office only to learn that if I ask for a police report it will go on my California driving record as having been in an accident! Needless to say I just left.

Not sure what the moral of the story is but is sure sucks to have your driving record dinged if someone in a car wrecks you on your bike.
