Rebuilding a beater for some fun

Hey guys, I have a late 90's Mongoose FS-1 tht I got new back then.... It is a POS...and I know that. I have just got back into biking, and would like to build this up as a fun beater...no real jumping/flatland/anything, just for a fun change from the road/mountain bikes.

The frame looks almost like this:

Just white.
I plan to spray it sometime this weekend after I tear it down.

Just the brake mount is on the seatstay, and not the chainstay as in the picture. It weights a ton.

The bike currently has a one peice crank on it, and a bent chainwheel, so I though I would rebuild the drive chain, new 3 piece crank/new chainwheel/new freewheel.

The brakes are going to be fine for what I would like to use it for now.

What Im lookign for are some good reccomendations on parts to build this back up, on the cheap. Weight does not matter as the frame is already very heavy.

It has the gyro, so it has front and rear brakes...how are most people running brakes now? Do I just run one? I am comfortable with just one, as I also ride a brakeless fixed gear.

So basicially, Im looking for some suggestions on cheap parts....really cheap(cost wise,I dont feel like breaking them the minute I ride it)
