The above-posted polo bike is specifically geared at 38x18
This allows for quick acceleration and lazy skids, but the biggest advantage is standing still
when the ball rolls a few feet outside my arm's reach,
and especially if my cranks are in an akward position, it let's me get there first.
Consider this when trackstanding with 49X16 (my daily gearing): How quick are you off the start?
Anyways, the Ottawa players and even some of the Philly crew I saw at this year's ESPI had even smaller!
Closer to 30x20. It was rediculous but it definitely gave the rider an advantage.
If you're building a polo bike, it's an element you should not overlook.
