If it is indeed 68mm, what you want is to get rid of the bottom bracket entirely, and you don't care if you mess it up, so you don't need the tools shown in the other thread. The left side should have a ring with some notches around the outside, the diameter will be larger than the BB shell. Grab that sucker with channel locks or a pipe wrench and get it off of there. It's a right hand thread. Once it's loose, use whatever works to spin the inner piece out -- there's nothing with any torque on it holding it in now, it should just spin out. Channel locks should handle it. At this point the spindle will come out, along with a lot of old bearings and what used to be grease but is now more like wax and clay. Get all that junk out, and go find a 10" or 12" adjustable wrench and a friend. Put that sucker (the wrench) on the flat parts of the thing on the other side. They aren't wide, so get the wrench just right, and get your friend to hold it on. Now, this thing is left hand thread, so you need to go righty loosey. Expect it to be more like righty grunty wrenchy fally offy a few times and you skin you knuckles owie -- this is called the fixed cup for a reason. Once it breaks free it will come out easily. Throw away all the crap you just removed, scrub out the threads in the frame with a toothbrush and dish soap, rinse well, let it dry and then grease it so it doesn't rust. When you get your new bottom bracket (spindle length will be determined by your crank, but you want a 68mm english thead rig), you'll need a $10 tool to screw it in.
If I could kiss you through the internet, that's what I'd be doing right now (it is a 68 mm)
