As far as the tires, what are you thinking of using?
Thru Axel. Ever ride a bike with one. A definite improvement. Tightens up the front end considerable. It worth the weight penalty for me and most riders I know over 200 lbs. If you're in the 160 - 190 range, it would help, but probably not be as noticible.
Been in the sport since '93. Rookie! ha ha!

I'm @ 165lbs. but have no interest in the thru axle stuff. I plan to sell the HMX-1 brakes & tires to a friend of mine for about $150. I have alot of different tires on hand to mount up. I buy them at clearance price when I find them, and stock up. I have 6 Panaracer Fire Mud Pro's, and several others now in my garage.... I'll probably use a PFMP on the rear & a Dart on the front. They weigh almost 1/2 what the Kinda's do that are currently on the bike. Don't get me wrong, The current set-up is great if you are able to ride downhill every ride, but I simply don't live in that environment. I have to climb up in order to enjoy the ride back down, so I need a lighter bike... The mechanical Hayes seem to be a great brake, but I've only used them twice now. Have a nice day!
