Agreed. ANSI yellow (but not golden yellow) is probably better during the day.

I suggest white as ANSI yellow is a less common helmet color and for the reasons you state.

White is a good compromise and hardly a compromise either.

Of course the helmet is only a (very) small part of visibility and only really visible from the front. It is part of supplemental, not primary visibility. But every bit helps.
