In terms of riding position, what should I look for? Does anybody have a diagram to reference, or is more of a comfort thing? I'm interested in angles i should look for....like how much my knee should bend etc.

The only real issue i have is that my levers are a bit of a reach when im in the drops (and i have to lean a bit more than necessary when im holding the horns)....which makes me conclude i need a shorter stem.

How much shorter though is my question? From this, arise other questions like are my shoes aligned properly etc etc, seat too far back?

Any advice (I'd rather do it myself...or at least understand what to look for)

Does that make sense? Or did i just ask a ******** question?
These are all great questions. As you learn more you will find that you have more questions. That Peter White link has tons of good info. There's lot's of good info on this site too. Educate yourself and experiment. Lot's of folks here will tell you to just hire a bike fitter and hope the person you choose knows what they are doing. I think it better to educate yourself, experiment and then if you want, supplement your education with a fit session with someone who knows what they are doing. I would probably hold off on making any changes until you learn some of the basics.
