So Red, what are you riding? Does different speeds make a difference? I notice that Shimano has lower speeds in their low end lines while Campag... seems to have all 10 speed.

Shimano took the square taper and allowed it to evolve to the octalink system - before they finally invented the hollowtech II system - which is pretty much perfect and can not be improved upon in any way. Shimano is the future, Campagnolo was the past. If the campagnolo ppl want to evolve and compete and survive in the world of tomorrow - then they best hire some Shimano engineers and move to Japan.. and that's my two cents.
