What dutret said, eggbeaters are 'looser' than other pedals. Try Time ATACs or Speedplay Frogs.

Road shoes are much stiffer, so they'll feel better, but they don't look work-appropriate and the better they are for riding the worse they are for walking. You have to make a trade-off somewhere.
