Here's how I ended up getting it off. First off, I was covered with almost 50 years of caked oil and dirt. I sprayed the H3LL out of it with liquid wrench and let it sit overnite. Went and got a good punch. I held the rim while a friend banged away. Took about 10 good smacks to get it loose. I think a second person and a good punch were the key.
