I don't think the high end cogs or chainrings last longer, they are lighter weight. Was that your original chain at 3000 miles?

I have no visible wear on my FSA chainrings after 4500 miles. I changed the chain once at 2500 miles.

The only way I can think it wore out that quickly is if your chain was very very badly stretched. I've heard shimano chains don't last that long. Pay more attention to chain wear and your current chainrings should last years.
