It is human nature to judge people. Whether that be by their clothes, the way they walk, the bike they ride, and, yes, their race. Some people overcome this, or at least claim they do, and see everyone neutrally. Others never get on top of it and become bigots. Most of us (I put myself here), eventually learn that stereotypes, even those with some basis in reality, are a poor substitute for understanding the individual.
I disagree that that is human nature. It is learned behavior, not innate nature. Those of us that "overcome" it are simply unlearning what our parents, schools and society in general has taught us. In a saner society we would not be filled with prejudices from an early age to begin with.
