Gut wrenching.

This sounds a lot like the crash that killed Ken Kifer. It happens probably a lot less often than people win over $1,000,000 in a lottery, but motorists do drift across the oncoming lanes once in a while right when a cyclist happens to be there at just the wrong time. This is the type of crash for which VC and defensive driving really has no answer.
