I’ve been riding 6 years and I am doing about 6,000-10,000 miles a year by bike and I had only one spill (pavement was poor quality) after trying to avoid a car that cut me off and that just resulted in a tear in my pants. Most “close calls” that I get are more of an aggravation then anything life threatening.
