It's tough. But I really don't see spending 10 hours on my bike to do the hairshirt fun. But then again that's why it's called the hairshirt.
every time i've done it i enjoy the challange. as for preparation i would say slowly building up your weekly kms so that you're comfortable doing 200km at a pace you can maintain (say 25km/hr). i did a few ride with the randonneurs to get ready at that seemed to work just fine. other than that hydrate the week before and get plenty of rest. so no, it's probably not something you can just jump on your bike and do, like the ride for heart. a double century takes some training or you're in for a world or hurt.
