A pannier was not one of the options. Perhaps the OP can not fit panniers on his bike or does not want to.

Anyhow, I am riding with a backpack on my CF road bike. Not really that bad but nothing to write home to mother about. I will be ordering a chrome messenger bag soon. For heavy loads I have a touring bike with a rack trunk or panniers.
