First of all, if you are not sure about my remarks, remove tyre and tube of one of the wheels and measure the internal rim width, from internal side wall to the oposit internal side wall. Please let me know what are your results.
Second, If you are puzzled with the remarks in Sheldon Brown's article (by the way, the right way of making rim and tyre size combinations) and the rim and tyre combination you see around, please do not be surprised. This way of "wrong" matching rims and tyres is the heritage of Mountain Bycling.
