it's probably an unfair assertion but i'm basing my opinion on aluminum on a rental road bike (trek 2100) i had on vacation for a few days. i could tell the difference, there was a 'dead' feel as opposed to steel's liveliness, and it didn't handle the bumps or gravel very well. there could be other reasons for this as well though, such as the wheel set. not saying this means the pista concept rides like that bike, i'm sure i'd enjoy the concept better because of the geo. just sayin.
