Bikes: trying to decide on sport tourer

Frame pumps vs CO2 pumps

Hi,

I've only started road biking recently so please excuse my ignorance. Is a frame pump overkill for a road bike for rides of 20, 30, 1/2 century? Or is a Co2 pump with 2-3 cartridges more appropriate as it is presumably lighter and more compact. Will a CO2 produce 90 pounds or more in 23 to 25 mm 700c tire?

I am presently carrying a light carbon tube frame pump under my top tube which I've used once to repair a flat on the road in the last 3 years. All of my other flats were slow leaks discovered at home where I have a good floor pump. Most of the road bikes I see on the roads have a small under-the-seat wedge pack and no frame pumps. They must have a CO2 in their wedge pack (or a cell phone).

If I were to randoneur or to tour I would prefer to have a frame pump.

Would appreciate any comments.
