This is the pump I picked up for road riding: Pump. It does a pretty good job and has a flexible end so you don't have to worry about shearing the valve stem off and can operate as a foot pump for higher pressures.

I carry it in my jersey pocket, which every time I put it back there in the house, I think, boy that's uncomfortable. But, once out on the road, I don't even notice it back there.
