I agree some of the setups are astounding. As I scrolled through that slide show, the bikes just got weirder.
There's a guy on a sort of cyclocross bike (really a rigid mountain bike with drops, I guess). Then there's someone on a singlespeed. That makes me want to collapse on the floor just thinking about it. Later on though, the guy attempting it on a fixed gear...that is truly nuts. Did he make it the whole way?
