I too was in the same position.

Ended up w/ the Piranha last weekend. After comparing the two I found only one significant trade off.

Forks - Piranha has the Manitou Axel Elite, which I hear is better than the Dart 1 (that's what the guy at the Trek store says). Axel has on-the-fly adjustment and lockout.

Components - Trek has Deore front and rear; Piranha has Deore rear and Alivio front.

Other than that, pretty much the same. I'd would rather upgrade a derailleur than a fork.

The chrome 6000 looked chincy to me. Liked the black and orange, but paint was the least of my worries (though I do like my black and blue)

EDIT** Just noticed you bought the Piranha. Good choice. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. So how is it?
