Not too long ago, I rode motorcycles everywhere - regardless of temperature and conditions.

Many in that community see motorcycles as the answer to our car-centric lifestyle - the same way so many here think of bicycles.

I definitely feel that efficient motorcycles, and scooters, are much better for society than cars. Gas mileage, traffic congestion, and general awareness of your fellow commuter are all much improved. Unfortunately, motorcycles/scooters are primarily just fair-weather toys for many. How long would you have to own one, riding only once or twice a week, to make back the energy spent to produce it?

It's unfortunate that the market in this country isn't friendly to the true utility bike - with engine sizes and overall prices staying three to four times what they need to be for basic transportation. I'm sure you know what many (most?) riders feel about people on scooters...
