let it sit for a day after you prime. after you've done the color and the clearcoat, let it sit a week. yes, a WEEK. don't get impatient and paint Saturday afternoon then build it up Sunday morning-- it needs to harden!
good point. its also good to error on the long side when waiting between coats. if you dont wait long enough, it will look smooth right after being sprayed, but will sag and produce the "orange peel" look while drying if the underlying coats haven't set up enough to support the top one. this is especially true of vertical surfaces.
