The average or older cyclist that takes long rides or tours would be well advised to run a riser stem and use spacers under the stem. Getting the bars up within an inch or less of seat height really helps comfort. You will use the drops more and still be as fast. Too many want to ride like elite cyclists and few have the body for it.
