Sounds like my pain (although we are in the middle of summer in Los Angeles), and I'm pretty sure mine is related to my IT band. In early May, I pushed it pretty hard on back to back days, and have had some pain ever since.

I've cut back riding to once a week, and little to no hills and I've seen some improvement. Last Sunday I made it to mile 50 on a 80 miler before I felt the pain. Before this, I would feel it much ealier on, but rest, ice, and streching seem to be working. I really should have stopped then...cept I was 30 miles from my car in pretty much nowhere!

I'm gonna limit the next 2 weeks to rides near home (I can do about a 40 mile flat loop and still be about 10 to 12 miles from my house at all times (err is this possible) , and stop as soon as I start to feel the pain...my wife will love the call to pick me up:>
