I live next to a parking garage where it would cost $400/mo to store a car. That would basically cover your apartment rent in a smaller town. It's crazy how so many people have cars here. For $400/mo + maintenance/insurance/cost of the car, it's pretty much cheaper to take a cab everywhere (plus, you never have to drive!) Luckily, I'm happy with my bike and a $20 metro card.
