But those pedals do work quite well with wide bottom, lugged sole, running shoes... and the non-bike shoe looking SPD cleated shoes I also use.
On the negative side, they are not great pedals... they are bit heavy, and don't spin as easily as my Look pedals on my road bike.
But for a few miles... heck, they are a great compromise pedal. Quite strong too.
