I am a die-hard dura ace guy(still am) but I think campy shifters (esp. 07 veloce), with a shiftmate, remain the cheapest 10 speed set up for racing. My 07 veloce shifters weigh 340 grams...almost 70 grams lighter than DA.
You should have no problem with 07 shifters with a shiftmate. DON'T EVER ASK BIKESHOP WRENCH FOR OPINIONS ON MIXING PARTS. They will discourage you from doing so, simply because they hate working on bikes with mix parts but usually because they ignorant regarding the topic.
I've tried very hard to build a 10 speed fast commuter and I think the cheapest route is shimano 105 10 speed and campy veloce shifters.
thanks for the reply. now to wait for the centaurs to come back in stock at pbk.
