I rode only about 20-25 miles with you but it was fun, even more so because I missed the ugly part of the route through Laguna Beach. Thanks for putting up this ride Indolent! BTW, if you want an idea for a detour around Laguna - coming from the North on PCH turn left on Laguna Cnyn (CA-133), right on El Toro, right on Aliso Creek, right on Moulton, right on Crown Valley and you'll be back on PCH. There are a couple of pesky hills to climb (as Indolent would put it) but no hill is worse than riding through Laguna.
I'm sorry Steve. I hope you didn't feel left behind, honestly. I didn't realize it was your first century!
By the way, I told Alfa63 (also his first century) that the way we rode that is NOT how most people ride centuries. Most people either ride really fast and take quick breaks or ride moderately and take longer - but not as long as we did! - breaks. I hope you'll come out and ride with us again. And yes, lots of vanilla folks in the OC. What is up with that? Not as much flavor in the beach communities.
