Bike Saddles
I need some advice. I was reading a few fitness articles on cyclingnews.com about bike saddles. I currently ride with a Selle Italia Flite saddle (titanium). One of the authors mentioned the following:
After trying a large number of seats, the one I eventually chose to replace my Turbomatics with was the SLR Trans Am 185 gm. I couldn't care less about the perineal cutout in my own case, but although it appears flat along its length, it does not feel like it when I sit on it. It actually feels like my Turbos used to. Another issue that is as important is the shape across the rear of the area of the seat where we bear most of our weight. Some seats roll down from the centre to the edges very quickly, which promotes instability in a lot of riders. The San Marco Era springs to mind in this regard. I see a lot of Era riders hanging to one side or the other slightly, for no apparent reason once I investigate, other than their choice of seat. At the other end of the spectrum where there are riders who inherently hang to one side for whatever reason, using seats like the Selle Italia Pro Link Trans Am which is very flat across the rear, can be one of the measures taken to get these type of riders stable and square on the seat.
There are more seats out there than ever before, and certainly some of them seem to be designed more for a 'look' than anything else. The saying 'one mans meat is another mans poison' definitely applies to seats. Personally my butt doesn't like Flites either, but I know plenty who swear by them. Best of luck with your search.
Where would be the best site to buy this saddle and is it still available? And/or is it very similar to my Flite saddle?
