Fork Material/options to Consider

Well after careful consideration, I've decide I'd rather drop some $ on getting a new fork and HS (threadless) for the Cannon because even though I like brakeless riding, its much easier to get to the speeds I like to ride with a brake. The dilemma is that since it's tough to find a 1" bladed fork in steel, let alone in threaded, there is only carbon and alum left. The ebay forks (non bladed seem cool but they are generic and want something that has quality to it. getting a custom fork really is a long wait and also expensive and I would rather do that for a nice lugged frame. I've been eying to get something like this: http://spicercycles.com/index.cgi?ca...esc=Close-outs
but am concerned to the alum to alum ride quality. I hear carbon is a pleasure from dampening things but I'm spooked about NYC streets eating it up along with Micro cracks that develop over time. have any suggestions?
