While Leonard Harvey Nitz was certainly one of my cycling heros, I doubt he was the first American to start using Fast Tack. Helped popularize it maybe. I say this because I started using Fast Tack in 1986, and I knew a number of people that had already been using it for years by then. I want to say that Bill Farrell (of Fit Kit fame) first turned me on to Fast Tack during a Claremont Speedway points race, but it could have been somebody else. I might have been one of the Tobias', Neil from West Hill Shop, or one of the Branford Bike guys. Maybe even Mike Walden, one of the Young's, or another coach from the Wolverine Sports Club. But I'm pretty sure Bill mentioned it to me first. I don't think I touched a tube of actual tire cement till I was in college a few years later.
