My 1985ish Falcon has Shimano Biopace cranks so I would guess that is the approximate age. That is consistent with the 12 speeds and downtube shifters. You're right, that it's not a collectible (if it had Campy components it would have been) but sounds like you got a real nice bike for next to nothing.
