I dont know about prices at your side of the pond but here; LD1000's are about the most expensive rear LED light you can get. Atleast from a mainstream but quality brand like Cateye. I have read some reviews on them and alot of people found them heavy, not that weather proof at all and dissapointing. I own one Cateye TL-LD600 which I have found to last well past its rated time, resisted heavy, monsoon like rain (!) and be reasnably bright. I intended to get anouther 1 or 2 and mount them as close to each other possible to make a large, 15 LED area; almost comparable in conspicuousness as that you see on recent motorbike models that use thick bands of LED's. The only lacking area is sideways visability.
