Bikes: Surly CrossCheck, Giant NSR1

I have a Surly Cross Check. It is as manufactured with the following additions:
Trek aluminium rack on rear
Planet Bike Cascadia Hybrid These are full fenders with big mud flaps.
Chainstay protector, Neoprene
Reflective Stickers everywhere
2 spoke reflectors per wheel
I have not removed the white front and rear red reflectors.
Time Alum pedals

Should be a good weight compare. I had to weigh myself then pick up the bike and weigh myself again holding it.
28.4 lbs Excellent estimate!!

I agree that we are talking different animals to some extent. The drop bars were a requirement for me. I wanted the tight tuck to help me reduce my 12 mile commute times.

Not sure on the tires. These seem really smooth until you get a good lean and get on the side knobs. I have no traction issues in the 200+ miles so far. Only when under high pressure on singletrack did I get slippage. Singletrack is not normal for this bike. As stated before there is plenty of options for tires. I bought this bike cause I could get & fit studded tire for the winter.

The front fork has fender/rack mounts. Not sure why you say it does not include front rack mounts. You only need one hole for both from my understanding.

As for durability: I don’t see an advantage to either.

I definitely agree with you on the brakes. I wanted disk very bad but could not get one in my price point. I figure I will one day replace the front fork with a disk compatible one.

As others have said, good job with the comparison.
