unless you're buying in bulk to save money, I'd buy:
1. 286mm for the front
2. 284mm rear

I always get at least 1 extra spoke in each length

Nipple length doesn't affect spoke length.

And from 293 down to ~285? that's a huge difference. did you have any tension at all with the 293mm?
