I think you can definitely exclude that they made "real" BMW bikes in the eighties. If there are such bikes, they must be labelled for marketing. Their 90ies ATB's are really nice and an exceptions since they really engineered the bikes or at least parts of it such as the Tele-Lever suspension. I have never seen a BMW bike in the 80ies and if there were some I should since a live close to Munich...
Although there was a famous frame builder named Altinger who build unique frames an always used original BMW paint.....so this is as close as you get but I doubt finding any Altingers in the U.S. since we hardly find them here.....
