The trekking bars are only upright if you put them there. Between rotating the bar and adjusting the stem up and down you can set it up any way you could possibly want. I have mine tilted so that when holding the lower section with the controls I'm in the same aero position as the drops on a drop bar. Plus my wrists are flat in this position which makes it more comfortable when hitting bumps or going down a steep hill.
