I hope this is the right place for this post. I mentioned in another post 2 bikes that a friend had given me. Both have been sitting for a while (a LONG while), but both seem to be in fairly decent shape, so I'd like to fix them up for my wife and I.

I don't want to butcher them, so I need a little advice (AGAIN). Remember that I am new to the whole biking thing. What would be the safest way to begin cleaning up the bikes? I don't want to strip them, just knock off some of the barn dust and polish them up a bit. I haven't done anything but bring 'em home so far (don't want to do more harm than good.)
