Eh, you get paranoid pricks sometimes. Last summer I had a fairly lame job at a grocery store a couple blocks from my apt (actually I started cycling when I bought my old Univega to ride to work!), and a couple times I was put on cart duty. Sometimes people would just NOT want you to help them! One lady acted really offended, but I think that somehow she thought I didn't work there...despite my uniform, apron, name tag and everything. Second time she came in and I offered to take care of her cart, I pointed to my tag and she said "Oh...ok." Just a misunderstanding.
