Yeah, I know how you feel. Unfortunately it's often the case that if you want something done right then you have to do it yourself.
Please post back when you get the answer from your LBS. Remember, chain master links like these,
, are out of spec (too wide). Both 1/8" and 3/32" internal width chains are supposed to be ok, but I wonder if a 3/32" chain would have less drag (since it would also be externally narrower).
In all likelihood I'm guessing you probably have a 1/8" chain without a master link.
