i just acquired a karate monkey frameset (29er) and i'm trying to put together a fixed/free rear wheel. i've never put a mtb together before, so i find myself in need of advice. i am planning to use this bike as a commuter but also have fun with it on the trails, so i want a versatile rim that can take a range of tire widths, from medium to fatty. in terms of hubs, i heard the new surly fixed/free is a sure bet, but if anyone has other suggestions i would love to hear them. also, where should i look to find such a wheelset, aside from my local shop, which over charges beyond comprehension.
