Do not worry about what others think of yer attire. Hell, I will wear my roadie stuff when mtb'ing (even DH) and my mtb stuff when on the road. All depends on what is clean and doses not smell at the time I go riding.

Places to ride? Can't help there.

Small first aid kit. Nothing serious just some alcohol swabs/Iodine swabs and maybe some gauze and tape.

Spare tube or patch kit, multi tool, pump or CO2 cartridges.

Also bring along some type of energy food. Powerbar, hammer Gel etc etc. You will find that once in a while you will get in the zone and just ride and ride and the next thing you know you are three hours out and hungry and about to bonk. Be prepared.
